Neoprene sponge, also known as CR sponge, has a surrounding skin like the other types of sponge rubber. A special feature of this neoprene type is its excellent flame retardant properties and its greater oil resistance compared to the other types. Neoprene sponge has similar properties to neoprene rubber. This means that it possesses good mechanical properties and therefore readily returns to its original shape following compression. It is an extremely wear-resistant material that can withstand a wide range of weather conditions including exposure to UV radiation and ozone. Another important property of CR sponge is its resistance to swimming pool water and seawater. It is also reasonably resistant to acids, solvents, mineral oils and greases. Thanks to its resistance to ageing and its other properties, this material can have a long life span when used outdoors. EKI converts neoprene sponge into round, square and rectangular profiles, both non-adhesive and self-adhesive. It can also be converted into strips, reels and round cord.
Due to its waterproof properties and resistance to seawater, neoprene sponge is frequently used for seals in the shipping industry. Naturally, it can also be used for other seals that involve contact with water. In addition, CR sponge rubber can be used as a seal for doors, hatches or other spots where recesses need to be sealed. Its flame-retardant properties make it ideal for applications involving electricity, such as in electrical cabinets, or in the metal industry where a lot of welding and grinding is carried out. Thanks to its oil-resistant qualities, the material is used in workshops, ship engine rooms, offshore and on drilling rigs.
