Everything about SBR

What is SBR?
SBR stands for Styrene-Butadiene Rubber. This material is the most commonly used raw material for rubber. It is butadiene rubber supplemented with 10 to 35 percent styrene, which creates a type of synthetic rubber.
Which characteristics does SBR have?
By combining butadiene rubber and styrene, a rubber is created that is more resistant to aging and heat. It can withstand temperatures ranging from approximately -30°C to 80°C. SBR can be used for insulation, damping, and shock absorption. Additionally, it is highly durable for indoor use due to its good resistance to wear from friction.
SBR rubber is also known for its excellent mechanical properties, meaning that when the material is compressed, it returns well to its original shape. Thanks to its flexibility and resilience, the likelihood of tearing is very low. However, it is less elastic compared to natural rubber. The hardness of SBR ranges between 40 and 95 Shore A. Furthermore, the material is excellent in resisting water, acids, salts, and bases. However, it is not recommended to expose the rubber to (mineral) oils, solvents, hydrocarbons, or fuels. If you are looking for a rubber resistant to these substances, we recommend NBR rubber.
How is it applied?
SBR is a widely used type of rubber with numerous applications indoors. This material is used for rubber mats, as underlay in constructions (such as under heavy beams), and for anti-slip mats. Additionally, it can be found in construction, the medical sector, maritime industry, and various industrial applications. Rubber sheets made from this material are employed to prevent leaks or air flow, as well as for sound insulation, shoe soles, and packaging.
SBR is a material that is easy to process, allowing it to be cut into various shapes and thicknesses. Examples include rings, sheets, strips, and gaskets. These products can be used for insulation, sealing, or shock and vibration absorption. You can also find the material in automotive tires, bearings, springs, and underlayment. Additionally, it is used in the food industry, aerospace, machinery manufacturing, and agriculture.
