PE or polyethylene foam is a closed cell foam that is extremely versatile and presents a wide variety of application options. EKI converts the blocks and rolls of this material into various strips and shapes. Because it’s so easy to convert, it is also available as profiles that can be used for applications such as backing rods for use with sealants, pipe insulation and corner protection. At EKI, we produce the sheets in thicknesses of 2 mm to 100 mm on our own peeling machine. Because we peel the sheets ourselves, we are able to offer endless possibilities in terms of thicknesses and purchasing quantities. These PE foam sheets are also available in self-adhesive varieties, making them easy to install. In addition, we can convert the sheets into a range of profiles, such as rings, strips, tapes or gaskets. We cut our rolls from the total breadth of one metre into any width desired, ranging from 5 mm to 1000 mm. The foam rolls are delivered in thicknesses of 1 mm to 15 mm, and can also be supplied with a self-adhesive side. The material is available in white and grey and a range of hardnesses.
Polyethylene foam is waterproof and resistant to chemicals and weather. It also has good mechanical properties and returns to its original shape after occasional compression. The materials is lightweight, easy to maintain and 100% recyclable. PE foam is a durable product that can be used as a sealant that excludes water, as well as thermal insulation, sound insulation and a draught excluder. Thanks to its waterproof properties and excellent buoyancy, it’s also used in buoyancy aids such as life jackets or other swimming pool equipment. The material is also commonly used as a shock absorber.
This material is also commonly used as packaging foam for filling suitcases or boxes. It is often found in transport cases or as inlays in suitcases and tool drawers. It is impermeable to liquids thanks to its closed cell structure, and its resistance to chemicals also makes it ideal for these applications. As a packaging, the hardness of PE foam is comparable to that of a hard mattress – around 25 kg/m3 and higher.
Because of its heat and sound insulating properties, PE foam is perfect for use as underlay for laminate or parquet flooring. It can protect residents from cold rising from below, and prevent neighbours in the floor below being troubled by unwanted noise. Due to the same properties, PE foam tape is highly suitable as insulation tape or mounting tape for use in sealing frames, doors and glass as well as mirrors and skylights. It can also be used fro sealing joints with a small joint gradient. For joints with a large joint gradient, we recommend PVC foam instead. Finally, polyethylene foam is also used as closed backing rods for use with sealants.
Nijmegen-based manufacturer EKI can supply you with high-quality PE foam tape, sheets and PE backing rods, in both standard and custom sizes. Our polyethylene foam items can be delivered both in bulk and in small quantities. Regardless of the size of the purchase, we can deliver our products quickly throughout Europe.
