Filter Foam
We supply two types of filter foam: the blue type for water filtration, and the black type for air filtration. This material is lightweight and has an open cell structure that can range from fine-celled to very coarse depending on the PPI, and in accordance with the desired application.

Properties and applications of filter foam
EKI supplies two types of filter foam, being air filter foam and foam that filters water, such as pond filter material. The former comes in black and the latter category in blue. Both are available as foam sheets, rolls, strips, self-adhesive strips and as moulded foam. Black filter foam is actually reticulated polyester foam and blue filter foam is reticulated polyurethane foam. During the reticulation process, the foam is filled with hydrogen and oxygen. A spark is used to initiate a controlled explosion, which blows the cells walls out of the foam, creating an open cell structure that makes it highly suitable for filter material. This even, open cell structure has a controllable cell size of PPI 10 to PPI 80 (PPI = pores per inch), so that it can be supplied in fine or coarse versions. Both types of filter foam are resistant to ageing and the influences of ozone and oxygen, and they can be used at temperatures up to 90°C. The foam filter is also recyclable. It is an easy to process material with a low specific weight.
Air filter foam
This black material has a homogeneous cell structure, even cell size and a three dimensional network. This makes it ideal for filtering air and the retention of dirt particles. The material can be washed in the washing machine, rinsed and shaken out before being reused. It is resistant to contact with water, fuel, cleaning agents, mineral oils and greases. One popular use for this filter foam is as speaker foam, to protect the speaker components from dirt and dust.
Water filter foam
This blue material also has a homogeneous cell structure, even cell size and a three dimensional network. It is therefore ideal for mechanical and biological water filtration and is the simplest, cleanest and quickest solution in mechanical cleaning. The material is commonly used for pond filters or aquarium filters. It is also used in stamp cushions, garden furniture and sailing boat equipment. However, it is most popularly used as filter sponge in aquariums, ponds and swimming pools. For this purpose, the foam is converted into a pond filter for example, which allows water to pass through while the dirt particles are retained. It is essential for a clean pond or aquarium and healthy fish.
