Of all the different types of foam rubber, this is the one most resistant to oil. While neoprene celrubber is suitable for temporary contact with oil, NBR foam is ideal for long-term or even permanent contact with oil. It is similar to the neoprene type in that it has a closed cell structure and therefore does not soak up fluids. It also has good flame-retardant and shock-absorbing properties. For the best flame-retardant properties where no contact with oil is involved, however, we recommend using neoprene foam instead. NBR foam is also less resistant to the effects of UV radiation and ozone than EPDM foam. This means that it is primarily used for indoor applications and is rarely used outdoors. The material is also soft and flexible and has very good mechanical properties, which means that it readily returns to its original shape following compression. At EKI, we convert this NBR foam into a range of customised shapes including foam tape, blocks, frames, disks and rings. We can supply all of these in single- and double-sided self-adhesive forms. This foam rubber comes in black, and is available in various degrees of hardness.
Due to its resistance to oil and good flame-retardant properties, NBR foam is frequently used in engine rooms, mechanical engineering, and in shipping and offshore applications. It is frequently used as a seal in these areas. Thanks to its oil resistance, it is a commonly used material on drilling platforms. At the other end of the spectrum, it is also used as shock-absorbing material in martial arts clothing and accessories. You may also recognise it as the material used to make yoga mats. It can also be used for sound insulation purposes.
Nijmegen-based manufacturer EKI can supply you with products such as high-quality NBR foam tape, foam sheets, self-adhesive weatherstripping and draught strips, in both standard and custom sizes. Our NBR foam items can be delivered both in bulk and in small quantities. Regardless of the size of the purchase, we can deliver our products quickly throughout Europe. NBR foam is extremely effective in withstanding prolonged or permanent contact with oil. It is a soft and flexible material with good mechanical properties, and is frequently used for seals in engine rooms, shipping and offshore, as well as for shock-absorption purposes.
