Wool felt is made from wool fibres that are matted together. Wool is the most commonly used raw material for felt, as the fibres hook together easily due to their distinctive scales. When the scales slide past each other in opposite directions, they latch onto each other. Wool felt has good resistance to the effects of sunlight, and is also resistant to acids in normal concentrations. The material will not become discoloured on contact with large quantities of water. It is a good insulator against both heat/cold and sound. In addition, it is fully recyclable and extremely sustainable. Due to its insulating properties, the material never gets too hot. Wool felt is naturally water- and dirt-repellent, making it durable. It is also highly absorbent (up to four times its fibre weight). The material is easily compressible and very resilient. Finally, the felt very easy to work with and will not fray easily. As a result, it can be cut into many different shapes, such as felt strips and felt rings. The material is also available with a self-adhesive layer and is then known as adhesive felt or self-adhesive felt.
Wool felt can be used for very light bearings involving very little or no horizontal displacement. When it is used in this way, it is also known as industrial felt. These types of bearings may be associated with floating floors and wooden partition walls. Wool felt is also used as an insulation material, for example under floors, as well as for sealing gaps in masonry. This material is also widely used by consumers for crafts, but at EKI we mainly supply it in the form of technical felt such as construction felt or industrial felt. The material is also widely used in interior architecture.
Nijmegen-based manufacturer EKI can supply you with high-quality wool felt, adhesive felt, rolls of felt, self-adhesive felt, black felt or felt strips in both standard and custom sizes. Our wool felt items can be delivered both in bulk and in small quantities. Regardless of the size of the purchase, we can deliver our products quickly throughout Europe.
